Anzac Day School and Community Services

Anzac Day was remembered by students and staff at Mountain Creek State High school through the official school ceremony that was held on Monday the 24th of April.  Many special guests attended the ceremony including special representative Doug Elliott President Kawana RAAF Association, Mr Rob Hunt RSL Kawana Waters Sub Branch, Mr Steve Dickson MP State Member for Buderim and Mr Ted O’Brien MP Federal Member for Fairfax.

As part of the ceremony this year we paid tribute to the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels. Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel was the name given to some extremely honourable Papua New Guineans who assisted in bringing injured Australians through the Kokoda Trail to safety. It is agreed that without their help we would have lost a lot more men in this campaign.  On the 6th of March this year it is believed the last fuzzy wuzzy angel passed away.

The ceremony was a moving one including some amazing talent from the students at Mountain Creek SHS. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the cadets, performance group, speakers, concert band, special guests, Jordi Titmus and Sam Evans who laid the wreath and our parents and students who participated in this solemn event.

On Anzac day Kellie Bartlem, Kate Skinner and Jordan Villanueva had the honour of assisting at the Dawn Service at Cotton Tree. Later in the day a number of our staff members proudly marched with Mountain Creek students at the mid-morning event. Our School Captains Liam Canvin, Nathan Cross, Briana Williams, Sarah Gaukroger laid wreaths at the cotton tree cenotaph in memory of the fallen.
