When can students enter the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP)?
Students may enter the IBDP at one of two points:
Who will be considered for the IBDP?
Students will be considered for the IBDP based on academic performance, but also the personal qualities and beliefs which we believe are essential for success in the IB programme. Interested students will complete the IBDP application form, including a written statement entitled ‘My Academic Journey’. Applicants will then be invited to show a folio of work that they believe demonstrate student organisation, attention to detail, academic excellence and innovation. This will include one assignment piece and one recent class exercise book.
Selected students will be interviewed by a panel of two teachers. Selection Criteria used during the interview will include:
Successful applicants in the first round will be notified in Term 3.
Students enrolling from outside of Mountain Creek State Hight School may be required to sit the ACER Higher Ability Test.

What is the purpose of the interview?
Using the following Selection Criteria, the interview panel will assess each student’s decision to study the IB Diploma. The aim is to determine if the student is suitable to the learning environment and possesses the ability to achieve success in the IB.
SC1 – This criterion will assess the candidate’s passion, skills and fit with the IB Learner Profile. Referring to the applicants Academic Journey statement and Folio of work, candidates will be asked to explain how their interests, skills and ways of learning and working will be suited to the IB pathway. Students will be asked to explain their motivation for wanting to study the IB.
SC2 - The panel will ask students about their
Abilities to meet challenges
Leadership qualities and team work
Determination, resilience, life balance
SC3 – The panel will refer to the student’s academic ability and potential. The IB is a challenging and requires a student to be diligent, organised and possesses well developed independent learning skills. The panel will refer to the student’s report cards and folio of work.
What do I bring to the interview?
Applicants will be required to bring their folio of work:
- 1 assignment task
- 1 school exercise book
When will the interviews be?
Interviews will be scheduled in August
What will happen at the interview?
Students will be given 10 minutes preparation time to prepare the answers to some questions in reference to their Academic Journey statement and their folio of work. The interview itself will take about 10 minutes.
Who will conduct the interview?
There will be a panel of two Mountain Creek State High School teachers who are currently teaching within the IBDP.
When will I know if I have been accepted into the IBDP?
First round offers will be made in Term 3.
